Roy Lichtenstein (1923 – New York City – 1997)

was an influential American Pop Art artist, known for his large-format paintings featuring iconic motifs from comics, advertising and everyday life. His technique of Ben-Day dots and clear lines characterise works such as ‘I Love Liberty’, ‘Water Lilly’ and ‘Still Life with Red Jar’, which depict typical consumer and freedom motifs with ironic detachment. Lichtenstein questioned the boundaries between art and mass culture and had a lasting influence on the visual language of the 1960s. His works fetch top prices on the international art market.
