The motif of the water lily is a leitmotif throughout Lichtenstein's work of the early 1990s. Inspired by Claude Monet, he developed his own series of “Waterlilies”, in which he transferred the Impressionist classic into his characteristic visual language. Both artists shared a fascination for perception - the focus was less on the motif and more on seeing itself. Today, works from Lichtenstein's series can be found in renowned museums such as the LACMA as well as in important private collections.
