Pablo Picasso’s ‘Jacqueline au Bandeau’, 1962, a linocut on Arches laid paper, signed and numbered. This is an impressive portrait of Jacqueline Roque, Picasso’s second wife and last great muse, who inspired him to produce an extraordinary number of works during the final two decades of his life. By 1962, Picasso had mastered the linocut technique, which required successive layers to be carved and printed from the same linocut block. This demanding method left no room for error, yet enabled Picasso to explore colour and form with directness and boldness.
