Erró (born 19 July 1932 in Ólafsvík, Iceland)
whose real name is Guðmundur Guðmundsson, is one of the country's best-known contemporary artists. After studying at the art academies in Reykjavík and Oslo, he moved to Paris in the 1950s, where he became part of the European avant-garde. Erró is best known for his colourful, collage-like paintings, in which he combines elements from advertising, pop culture and political propaganda. His style combines pop art, surrealism and political satire to create a unique visual language that often addresses consumerism, power and media criticism. Erró's works have been exhibited internationally, including at the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. He lives and works in Paris and Ibiza.
