Antoni Tàpies (1923 – Barcelona – 2012)
was an important artist from Catalonia who was best known as a painter and sculptor. His artistic career began in the 1940s, initially influenced by surrealism and Dadaism. Over time, he developed his own abstract style, famous for its experimental use of materials such as marble dust, sand and everyday objects.
These unusual techniques gave his works a special texture and depth, making him one of the most important representatives of the European Art Informel movement. Tàpies exhibited worldwide and left a lasting impression on modern art with his versatile work.
In 1984, he established a foundation in Barcelona dedicated to the preservation and research of his artistic legacy. Today, Tàpies is recognised as one of Spain's most influential artists of the 20th century.
