Norbertine Bresslern-Roth (Graz 1891 – Graz 1978)
is one of the most important animal painters of the modern era. Her talent for drawing became apparent at an early age, and she trained at the School of Applied Arts in Graz and at the Vienna Academy under Alfred Roller and Ferdinand Andri. Particularly noteworthy is her pioneering role in the technique of linocut, which she developed with impressive clarity and precision. Her depictions of wild and zoo animals, exotic species and native fauna testify to her keen powers of observation and deep respect for the animal kingdom. Bresslern-Roth's works are represented in numerous museum collections and made her famous beyond the borders of Austria during her lifetime.
