Johanna Meier-Michel (1876–1945)

was an Austrian sculptor and craftswoman who was best known for her delicate ceramic and bronze figures. She trained in Vienna, attended art schools and undertook study trips to Paris, Munich and Italy. Meier-Michel often created elegant female figures reminiscent of the style of bygone Viennese times. Her works were often created in collaboration with the “Wiener Kunstkeramische Werkstätte”. As an active member of various artists' associations, she regularly presented her works at exhibitions in Vienna and the surrounding area. Her art is characterised by a mixture of decorative sophistication and restrained design. She died in April 1945.
