Fritz Dietl (1880 Vienna – 1929 Gablonz)

was an Austrian artist working in the field of Viennese Arts and Crafts. He studied under Alfred Roller, Josef Hoffmann and Franz Metzner at the Wiener Kunstgewerbeschule. For some time he then worked in Metzner's studio before opening his own studio in Vienna, where he devoted himself to sculpture, interior design and decorative art. Dietl's works were presented at important exhibitions such as the Wiener Kunstschau. In addition to his artistic work, he taught at technical colleges, for example for gold and silversmiths. After being wounded in the First World War, he worked at a technical college in Gablonz, ran workshops and created a wide range of decorative objects such as ceramics, jewellery and vases. Dietl is one of the important representatives of early Modern Viennese Arts and Crafts.
