cabinet makers, Vienna VII, Westbahnstrasse 33

By 1914, Wilhelm Jonasch, a Hoffmann student, had already shown important pieces of furniture in the Hoffmann style and with first-class execution by Johann Jonasch, at the Werkbund exhibition in Cologne. Josef Hoffmann appreciated Jonasch's cabinetmaking skills, so he had many of his designs executed by him. The combination of precision, lightness, balanced proportion, and a noticeable zest for life and colour was achieved by few designers of the time (cf. bel etage catalogue, Wiener Werkstätte – Timeless Modernism, 2003, no. 17).
