Hubert Scheibl (born in 1952 in Gmunden, Austria) is one of the most renowned representatives of contemporary Austrian art. After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna under Arnulf Rainer, he developed a distinctive, abstract-expressionist visual language in the 1980s. His large-format paintings combine painterly depth, rhythmic structures and subtle colour tones to create atmospheric spaces between emotion and perception.

Scheibl has been represented at major international exhibitions, including the Venice Biennale and the São Paulo Biennial. His works have been shown in museums such as the Museum of Modern Art Ludwig Foundation Vienna (mumok), the Albertina Vienna, the Leopold Museum, the Essl Museum, as well as in international collections such as the Museum of Fine Arts Leipzig, the Würth Collection and the Saatchi Collection London.
He lives and works in Vienna.
