Around 1900, numerous vases were designed by Koloman Moser and his students at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts, many of them with avant garde metal mounts. Usually these vases were commissioned by Bakalowits, Vienna. Since this vase is exceptionally large and thus a very expensive object, one can assume, with a high degree of certainty, that it was designed by Moser himself.
